Getting tired during the day AND I have an hours snooze.

I'm 57 and have been enjoying an afternoon nap for many many years. I put it down to my old work pattern; 5am-lunchtime ish for the best part of a decade.
Now I'm working 6am-6pm on day shifts and still find myself nodding off mid afternoon. But being at work i can't nod off so I'll have a sugary snack which seems to do the trick.
The other day it dawned on me that i may be becoming diabetic, or as someone mentioned up-thread, having a sugar crash. I'll look into that.

A fews years back it was called a power nap and was supposed to be really good for you.

Current thinking is that regular bed and rise times are best for you - and a daytime nap might interfere with this ergo not good.

I'm sure if you stick around for a few years it will be good for you.

I've noticed that since I am lot more careful with what I eat I nap a lot less.

But I'd roll with it and not worry.

My grandparents used to always have a nap in the afternoon. As my Gran got older, the naps became more frequent. She continued napping until she was 99. If it's not affecting your life then just enjoy it. Low gut health can cause tiredness but it's probably not that. Also, many physiologists believe that 1 x 8-hour sleep is not what we're designed to do anyway

I wish my sleep pattern was that normal and I'm only 52, for most of the summer I've been getting to sleep 0200-0400 and waking 1100-1300, usually taking up to ~45mins to actually get up.

Sounds normal, but if you have started taking medication check with your doctor, tiredness could be a side-effect. Moving pill taking from morning to evening can enhance your natural sleep pattern.

Problem.......at some time I suddenly go tired. I go to bed (cant snooze in the chair) and sleep well for an hour.....then I'm OK.
Chill, you're almost 80 yo ... I've been like you since I was 18, I'm 63 now.
Of course, because I still work full time, I cannot have a wee afternoon nap very often
I'm 61 and quite often have half an hr when getting home after a grueling shift.
I'm 63: if I didn't have to be up for 5.30am for work I surely would have a wee nap after a hard shift.
Was going to have one today, because I'm off tomorrow, don't have to get up at 5.30am, but did housework instead ^_^

Mediterranean folks always have had siesta time in the afternoon.

Lol this is my natural body rhythm, always has been.
Bring back lockdown, when I could follow my natural vampire body clock!

Pat, I've just cut my hours down, so instead of 4am wake-up its 5am. At this i can still ride into work. TBH though it's going to seem strange as won't be a dog to greet😢 me anymore when I get home. Oh and I only do 4 days, for now.
