Hello All

There is difference in the brake between the Giant defy advanced 2 2019 and 2020
2019 has Giant Conduct SL Disc
2020 has Shimano 105 hydraulic
both looks disc but what is the main difference

Thank you

Conduct brakes are cable operated hydraulic brakes https://www.giant-bicycles.com/global/showcase/conduct. An overcompensated cost cutting bodge IMO

105 are full hydro - tries, tested and vastly superior to the above (again IMO)

I'd go for the Shimano if you can. The Conduct systems looks OK for what it is, but it is a compromise, not compatible with other systems, and less likely to have long-term spares availability than the 105.

Put me off buying another Giant bike - in my price range which was up to £2k a couple of years ago the brakes were all Conduct.

Impossible to adjust/maintain by the DIYer - at least not easily.

Giant reckoned they stopped 25% shorter than the equivalent Shimano products - if so then why weren't they installed on their higher-end ranges?

My guess is that they are dying a slow death.

I have the Shimano system on my Defy Advanced Pro 3 and they will throw you over the handlebars ......Plenty of stopping power and as posted = spares are readily available
