The ALUXX range has now been given the disc brake treatment for 2016.
For 2015, only the Giant Defy Advanced (Carbon) got this treatment.

This, the Defy 2 is £849 http://www.rutlandcycling.com/318563/products/2016-giant-defy-2-disc-road-bike-black.aspx
The Defy 1 is a bit more
And there are some discounts on the 2015 range right now.

I for one am excited

A lovely bike, only ruined by the dropped seatstays.
I used to really love Giant bikes but now they have gone down that route... nah.

Which store was that? I could be tempted by the right Giant at half price.

Julie's cycles Leicester ( Clarenden rd) I believe Rutland cycles may be cheaper still as Julie's sell at full rrp normally as Rutland cycles are always discounted
Edit just checked their website the half price bikes are 2014 models but good discounts on 2015 models but not half price sorry for getting your hope up

I'm really tempted by the defy 0 on offer at a few places, ultegra equipped and a very lovely looking bike. Need to justify it to the Mrs

I'm not sure of the reasons for doing this, from an engineering perspective it doesn't look as strong a structure as a conventional design. Got to say though that in my opinion discs look much better than rim brakes.

Drop seat stay haters everywhere!
If you like it, go for it.

BMC's slr01 race bikes(and other models) also feature dropped seat stays. Don't know why that is but at a guess it doesn't compromise the frame in anyway or they wouldn't build it in that way.

I prefer the looks the conventional way though I must say.

I love Defy's and this looks very pleasant... apart from those dropped stays. Alas, I share the same prejudice as Joe and Ian and think they look odd. What's the reasoning behind them, other than giving a visual indication that the frame has been updated?

I had an SCR which I believe was the predecessor of the Defy. The carbon version was very good and I rode several thousand miles on it including my first ton. I think it's still out in the wild somewhere.

The alu version was less impressive in that I broke the frame within a couple of years.
