I was all set to say what a great stage, with Yates having around 1’ 40’ at the top of the Finestre I thought Del Toro was still looking in control and it was going to be tight. I expected him to close the lead enough of Sestrieres. That capitulation was completely baffling, del Toro didn’t seem to be struggling. What on earth was his DS doing?

Anyone looking at the final GC from this in a few years will think it was a procession. Disappointed for del Toro but ecstatic for Yates.

Del Toro saying he wouldn't pull Carapaz because Carapaz wouldn't pull on Finestre

If Del Toro was so sure of his form he would've pulled nonetheless

As I say, del Toro must think 2nd is a bonus and he will win it one day but I'm surprised by his lack of commitment even when he knew he was losing the jersey

Hindsight is a wonderful thing....best rider won today in Yates....but Del Toro has had a great Giro,I've loved watching him race.Nothing to be ashamed of in your first GT at 21.

Del Toro...
"In order to be a great winner, you need to be a great loser. I think I'm a good loser. I congratulate Simon and Visma. Now I know that I can win a Grand Tour. I will come back."

Carapaz
"Del Toro lost the Giro. He didn't know to race well. The smartest rider won."

I think Del Toro & Carapaz were cooked. Why else did the rest of the climbers come back to them? In that period Wout Van Aert was pulling an on form S.Yates along to victory. It all just went TJV's way today. Respect to Rafał Majka as one of the top Super Domestiques of the Giro.

They both sat up on the descent. And continued playing silly beggars on the flat.

This. Del Toro had plenty to sprint at the end. I hope he wins a Giro or Tour one day or he’s going to rue letting this one go. He seemed happy at the end when I though he’d be devastated hence me joking about betting irregularities

Agree 100% with the sentiments. But as I'm a pedantic smart arse I have to point out it wasn't his first GT, that was Vuelta 24
