I doubt Sammy B will be there. Luke Rowe was saying on his podcast the other day that he's more hopeful for a stage win than expecting one.

For an outsider, Pete Kennaugh was talking up Max Kanter's chances on lumpy sprinty stages like today, although with the caveat that Mads will be sprinting on those days too

The start of this nearly caught me out, it was only when I switched on the women's Vuelta yesterday that I realised it was starting today. I then had to remind myself where the start was that required an early start especially as the scenery is pretty much Italian.

Oh and I understand there is some Red Bull sprint for bonus seconds. Considering there's talk about the issues of having GC contenders at the front approaching the final sprint in GT stages getting them taking part in a intermediate sprints seems a bit silly (although they'll generally be utterly pointless as the break will hoover them up).
