Ahh. I got the impression from a few posts that some of you were serious cyclists!

I'll stick with the Wheelers :hello:

CC rides are usually a sociable pace - not minimum speed limited!

The whole spirit is to attract all levels of cyclist - especially those new to it - to get together, see new places, enjoy the scenery, cafe stops... no one gets left behind etc etc.

There's nothing wrong with arranging a fast/long/hilly ride... but if you want club run pace/distance then you're probably better sticking to club runs... or start a separate thread specifically aimed at arranging a fast run.

Im on the Wheelers forum and to be honest the opinion shown by redcard is the reason i have not joined a club , the reason i enjoy this forum is the rides we generally are arranging are for a mixed bunch it allows you to get to know people but still try to attain some level of fitness without feeling like you have to be a lycra clad missile

Im sure the wheelers would like to know they have such a strong rider in their ranks...because none of their current racers (nor the fast guys from other local clubs in the renfra bunch) have managed a 20 mph chaingang this winter!

Not sure why you chose to misrepresent what I said, but whatever.

Last decent run I was on was almost 75 miles, averaged 17.5mph, with 35 of those miles around the 20mph mark.

So, 16-20mph average not so ridiculous is it?

The routes mentioned in earlier posts are well used club run routes, so I incorrectly presumed that people might be riding them at a faster pace that regular CC rides.

You can arrange a mixed bunch ride if you want, but you don't need to feel excluded if someone wants to organise a faster ride.

17.5 mph was your average then, anyone could select a part of a ride to get a more flattering average!

In any case it was just meant to be lighthearted didnt mean it to come across as a dig, i apologise if it sounded nasty.

Although in saying that i do disagree with what you said - talking about averages in terms of 16-20mph is IMO a bit ridiculous because it is a huge variation with the difference in fitness levels, effort and/or group organisation significant between the two figures. Seeing 20mph averages getting mentioned may mean less experienced cyclists get discouraged because they are way off managing such speeds - the point i was making was that there are many experienced cyclists who race who often dont average those sorts of speeds either.

It is, after all, early January, and a lot of people will be less fit than usual.
I personally have no condition (the two training rides I've done this year have broken me by the end:tired:), which is kinda why I'm keen on a more sociable kind of thing than the "MOAR POWARRRR" kind of ride where I get dropped effortlessly (and discouragingly) on even the smallest of climbs...
