It's on the same day as stage one of the Tour of Britain, so I think I'll be heading down to Dumfries instead to watch the pros.

It's a good ride for a 'starter' and to get the buzz of doing something big.

However ....

- it is a bit of a victim of it's own success.
So many people doing it, with little clue of how to ride on the road, how to be aware of other people around and with little knowledge of the Highway Code

- there have been issues with the feed/water stops (lo-o-o-ng queues, not enough water, poor catering) in the past

- the final run-in, down a shared-use cycle path, is a bit scary and potentially, an accident waiting to happen

- transport to/from the start/finish has not always been smooth (buses getting lost on the way to Glasgow , trucks and buses getting separated = long wait for bike to be unloaded)

Despite all that - it was the birth of CC Forum Rides :bicycle: :bicycle: some years ago

It's worth doing but DON'T do it expecting to 'get a good time'.

If finishing it is the goal - do it

, enjoy it ... and get the bug for doing more interesting rides in the future.

i will be doing this , done it every year for last 3 years ( apart from last year as it was just after my crash  )
i find it great and the different people you meet along the way is superb , it was my 1st 50 mile run ever 3 years ago and i was on a high for days after it and it really gave me the bug for cycling

ive never had any issues with feeding stations etc , i have always started quite early so maby that helped
the transport is a bit of a hassle i agree so i will making my own way to the start this year
i was thinking about doing the 100 mile route but i really like the 50 mile one and it goes through winchburgh ( where i live ) so good to see a few folk out along the road waving us on
looking forward to it this year
