I've done Kincardine Bridge to Glasgow in 20mph headwinds on the A803, so yes I know where you're coming from!

You could take a run up through Eaglesham to the Whitelee wind farm. Good food and great value in the cafe there and a fairly quiet single track road once you get past Eaglesham.

This, with a loop back via the A77 cycle path, or continue south, turn right onto Clunch Road and back via Stewarton/Dodside Road.

Or alternatively the back roads out of Eaglesham out towards Strathaven.
