Apparently it's £150 at a repair shop or £6 for the glass replacement kit and an hours patient work with a hairdryer.

Anyone done it? Plenty of articles and YouTube vids on it.

Be warned.....

There's plenty of articles and Youtube videos but they don't guarantee success. I followed the instructions to the letter, took every care when removing the glass and everything was fine until the replacement of the glass when the phone stopped responding to touch. So ontop of the £130 pound bill at the repair shop I also had the cost of the self repair plus the extra delay waiting for the repir kit to arrive in the post.

had I taken the phone to a repair shop first, the glass replacement would have cost £20-30 saving a bucket load of money over the full LED unit replacement costs.

I've not tried with an S3, but smartphones tend to be super fiddly to take apart and it's so easy to break something by bending or pulling something a little too hard. I recently replaced the touchscreen on my HTC after shattering it, managed it but buggered the LCD in the process.

Hubby smashed his 6 weeks after he got his...wasn't even going to mess with it ourselves. Had tried an on a previous HTC and was so fiddly. Had it replaced at an authorised repair centre so warranty was intact.

I replaced the battery on my iPod nano.

NEVER again will I attempt to repair something like that, next time I will leave it to the experts.

I bought the kit and replaced the screen on a Galaxy S 1 and Tbh it didn't workout much cheaper. I have an S3 now and would definitely get it repaired professionally, it's blo*dy stressful unless you know exactly what you're doing. Not all YouTube guides are easy to follow

Glass is cracked on mine too, but only top corner and it's not particularly in the way. I investigated the options too, and decided just to leave it. I have a feeling replacing it yourself could be harder than it seems.
It's easy enough to break, it's just scratch resistant, not indestructible. (As I know to my cost!).
Part of my point though was it's worth around £500. I take a great deal of care of my HTC One X.
