My better half was looking for her glasses this morning, despite the fact that she was wearing them.
I did that this week. Got in the car and 100 yards down the road found my vision was fuzzy so thought, "Bugger, I've left my glasses at home", reversed back and as I got out of the car realised I was wearing them and they'd just misted up.

I have rebuilt an older roadbike with friction downtube shifters, and fitted the chain and gear cables this morning. I wanted to thread the chain big front to small at the back to get the length right so to make it easy I connected the front mech cable to allow me to move the mech over the big chainwheel. It all went smoothly and only took a few minutes to fit the cable and join the chain. Then I came to fit the rear derailleur cable but was unable to get it positioned correctly under the bottom bracket to run along the chain stay. It actually took me a few minutes to realise I had put the front cable on the right hand lever and was trying to fit the rear derailleur cable on the left hand lever.

When I consider how many times on so many bikes I have fitted new cables and have never had that problem before I am seriously considering at 67 years old the current state of my mental acuity.

The best explanation I have heard is that forgetting where the car keys are is normal old age, not remembering what the car keys are for is a sign of dementia

I'm forever forgetting why I went to a room or picked up my phone or laptop. I find it quite scary when I think of something I need to do, pick up my laptop and open the lid and promptly forget what I wanted to do. If I don't make a list before going shopping I will forget something.

Even with a list I sometimes forget things.

I've told this story before but it's worth another go...

I spent an hour removing the complicated Ortlieb handle bar bag mount from my old hybrid to put it on my new hybrid. Only to realise that having got the bloody thing off the old bike, I had actually put it back on the old bike instead of the new one.

Daft sod!

I was intending to empty a carton of milk into a milk jug, but emptied it into the electric kettle instead.

The jug was next to the kettle, which had its lid off and did need filling with water, so I think both tasks were on my mind.

My sister told me that one last week when I told her that I thought I was losing my marbles. (Having first made it clear to me that I had always been short of marbles, so that was nothing new ...)
