Well, it's certainly not for me, but someone must like it - wall to wall coverage now on Radio 5 for example. No doubt on the telly as well. At least this current tournament seems to be from the UK - the US ones are a nightmare for a lousy sleeper like me as the radio coverage is through the night and means I'm stuck with obscure radio stations like China Radio.

Golf courses always seem to be rather sterile in terms of ecology/ wildlife where they DDT most of them. Seems a lost opportunity. I worked in a golf club one summer and remember many of the clientele as being rude at best and often pretty unpleasant! And the clothes, my oh my the clothes.

Anyone got anything good to say about the golf?

It's actually more difficult than it looks but the few rounds I played with my uncle bored me to tears. Wasn't it Mark Twain who said that it spoiled a nice walk?

Apart from that, there is something about Golf clubs that I don't like. I couldn't help feeling the rusty VW Polo I was driving at the time was extremely outof place in the car park which was full of Mercs and Range Rovers. Jeans and T-shirt are not considered suitable attire either.

I I played a lot of golf when I lived in the UK and must admit a thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It's not unlike cycling in that if you don't partake of the sport it's not so interesting to watch on TV or as a spectator. However hate is a very strong word and should not be applied to any sport that does no harm to anyone.

We had some second hand clubs and balls scrounged from somewhere and used to go and welly them around on the shore. It's very satisfying when it ends up going nearly to where you thought you might like it to go, makes a nice noise when you hit it right too. Pinging one off the roof of a Merc didn't make such a good noise.

Other than that, not fussed at all.

Hope that young NI lad lives up to the hype though.

p.s. all the greenkeepers I've known are sound people (three of them).

Environmental disaster areas.

Please expand. I heard or read half of something that said they were good for wildlife but it could have been biased as I can't remember who was saying it.

Only ever played one round in my life and sort of enjoyed it but not enough to make me want to go back.

I thought I was doing well until two experienced lady golfers teed off from a nearby tee and the "swish" and "ping" instantly convinced me otherwise.

Love it, played it for 30 years, a very good way of finding out a lot about a person.

Have hardly played since starting cycling though, usually it would be 3 times a week and a few pints afterwards, that lead to my gut though,

Great game, very hard to master. And the clubhouse is where you'll see old values and courtesies maintained. (I cannot abide people wearing hats in pubs and bars for example)
What's wrong with Ian Poulter's attire anyway?

I've played a bit, but I'm not wild about it either - there is something mildly stuffy about golf clubs.

That said, it is a difficult game to play well, and there is a great deal of skill, technique and forethought reqired to play it to any decent standard.

I couldn't sit and watch the whole of a four day tournament, but I will watch the potted highlights.

I mean..look at the silly clothes they wear and what about all that money they spend on shiny new kit all the time oh and let's not forget about those weirdos getting up at all hours and in all weathers to have a round. Bloody weirdos if you ask me.
