don't really know if "Climie Fisher" qualify for this as their first album was quite successful, however their second album kinda flopped and most people have never heard of Simon climie's solo album.

they are still one of my favorite bands

and i still listen to haircut 100 / nick heyward, but again, a little too successful to qualify for this topic

lots of climie fisher on my you tube account... http://www.youtube.com/user/theanorak73

Danny's Wilson is a good one

The Kane Gang were excellent and deserved bigger success.

the bad and lowdown world of.... is still one of my favourites

One group that never really made it was North of Cornwallis. they were 3rd on the bill behind The Housemartins and The Farm at the City Hall in Newcastle but blew them both away.

Danny Wilsons 'Meet' album was top notch

They were good. Before they became poppy.

I liked Good Morning Britain, though.

Was listening to them the other day on my ipod

Walk out to winter came on shuffle and then just changed and listened to a few other tracks.

My oldest sister was in love with Roddy Frame when she was about 16. It was a bit scary

Fischer Z - "Going Deaf For A Living" is a great album.

The band was a vehicle for the singer/songwriter John Watts, who's still going to this day and still a top bloke. So much so that he's let me play his stuff on my podcast, which is such a honour for someone who's been into them since 1983!!

or The Birthday Party 'Deep In The Woods'? or The Fall 'How I Wrote The Elastic Man'? or even PIL 'Metal box' or Caberet Voltaire 'Just Facination'?

I strongly recommend Simon Reynold's book 'Rip It Up And Start Again' which chronicles alternative/indie/post punk from 1979 to 1985.

To be fair most non-mainstream acts were never going to 'make it' - I saw both the Birthday Party and Cabaret Voltaire in the early 80s and excellent they both were but they were never going achieve anything more than they did - CV made the charts IIRC. There are boxes of records in my garage with bands who were never going to make it but not that many people will have heard of them, where as Danny Wilson...

PIL's Metal Box still gets a run out in my house - classic!
