Got the MTB out for the first time in about 4/5 months and, by heck, that's hard work after the road bikes. It's like you're constantly pedalling up hill. I only did about 15 miles but that felt like enough for an afternoon.

Yep! That's why I eventually sold my MTB as I got no enjoyment from it what so ever once road bikes got into my blood

It's certainly different but, at lunchtime, I met up with the family as when they went out to walk the dog and then went for a quick ride along the Thames into Maidenhead.

However, whilst it might be slower and harder work, it was also much more sociable. I think I spoke with more people on the tow path today than I've spoken with in the rest of the week. I had a lovely chat with an old boy out walking his aged retriever, and twice shared a word of 12 with three young ladies who were doing the length of the Thames Path.

By contrast, the two roadies that I passed on the short ride to the Thames both completely blanked me.

I spent an hour or so this morning plotting a route on ridewithgps, only to try and download it to my GPS and realise the batteries were flat from last weekend!
So I decided to do it the old fashioned way and take a map out with me on the bike. 53 miles done and it was nice not heading anywhere in particular and stopping at the end of a road, getting the map out and deciding which way to go.

Done the 62 mile section of the upcoming Drumlanrig sportive, went to have a look before we did it in May. Hope the remaining 38mile section isnt too tough

My ride was an imperial ton, as posted here ;)

40 mile loop today. Got a right soaking too. Weather was terrible. However, I did pass by some nice villages with quiet roads. So it was an enjoyable day despite the soaking.

From Belfast - out via Glengormley to Templepatrick - through Dunadry - Five Mile Water (ate some chocolate) - pass by the International Airport - pass Aldergrove village - head to Crumlin (ate half my sandwich) - From Crumlin head back to Belfast via the A52.
