Good Hybrid bike?

As its summer I am in need of a new bike as my old one was a rusty hunk of junk which is coming to its last few days. I ride along a lot of roads but also go along some gravel paths, canal paths and maybe a few
Other rough paths. I have had a look at my local stores for hybrid bikes, they are good but out of my price range. I have a price range of around 200-250 nothing over. I will be great full for any help I can get for being pointed in the right direction. I am new biking properly, I will use my bike for going on bike rides daily with my friends and in the future for riding to college. I don't know any good technical details with bikes so try to keep it simple as I'm still learning, thanks.

See, I looked at this bike and thought, great, this is the bike for me. But I was hearing some bad things about Halfords, I really want to get into cycling and I want the bike I buy to last me a while, yet I'm not sure if this would last.

try decanthlon as well and ebay. Sometimes you can get lucky and find something hardly used for sale. Also the 2014 will be coming in soon, there maybe deals in a month or so if you can wait that long.

Finally the Pinnacle range from Evans is supposed to be quite good as well.

Halfords mechanics can be poor but their Carrera bikes are good vfm when 'on sale'

If you want to 'get into cycling' perhaps save a bit more for a road bike, although you'll need something else if riding on rough stuff

I am not sure if the new models coming through really has an impact on the entry models, more mid to top end I think

Link?
I would NOT get a bike with any sort of suspension at that price point unless purely for off road and even then...

if you can manage £250 then you wont find better than this, for that money , fantastic bike.

Probably colour

You need a certain number of posts to see the classifieds. It's a Carrera Gryphon

I also found a Trek 3900 and a Carrera Crossfire 1 for good prices.
- do these not have suspension, you will not like the bouncing around on the roads!
