I should have got my self sorted out with a proper bike after my first winter in this house. Next year will be better organised!
It's only for a few days a year at most as it's not that bad but not really safe either.

I do. In bits.

On that I'd have a go and would have a much better chance.

Feel like wimp, but a sensible one without the right gear for it and am getting the taxi paid for which is very kind of them. Last year the driver didn't charge because he reckoned we didn't go far enough.

Hope you have safe journeys or even better don't have to go out!

TBH Mate, I'd get the bus or my car to work..... bus given how bad my road is... Fortunately have finished for Xmas

It's not taking a solo tumble that concerns me so much(I take it easy and am layered up), but it's the threat of another vehicle sliding into me that worries me.

Yep! I was out today and had fun going the same slow speeds as the cars and the stuck vans and trucks but it's exposed enough in a few places to be just as bad as plenty of the roads tomorrow.

Feel much happier now, thankyou.

Snap. It'd be nice if the roads were better by tuesday but a taxi two days running might be a nice rest!

I'll stop spamming this thread now

Even some of the main roads (primary gritted roads) here now are a bit on the poor side just been out - liquid crushed snow. Too much for grit to overcome it quickly, just needs shovelling out of the way. It'll slowly melt when the some comes out and the traffic increases but not quickly enough.

I've got my MTB ready, knobblies back on. Might have to let some air out the tyres though - they are at 60 PSI at the moment.
I suspect that the main roads will be clear though, so once out of the village it should be fine. My main problem if it snows heavily is getting out of my street. It is a dead end and they don't grit it. So it's useful having a MTB, saves having to arse about digging the car out of the drive.

Don't think you are a wimp.I think you are sensible.

How many miles longers?

This is most of the route - it's nearly 10 miles and has a decent enough hill I think.

You can see right over Manchester to the coast or Bolton and Winter Hill on a couple of bits. Nice views when you get chance to look. Good views of the edge of the Peak District as well.

Hmm ... I've got to get myself and one of my children to the doctors for an appointment... its tempting to cancel it - we were intending to cycle the 2 or so miles there. She is not the keen cyclist in the family, and Mr Summerdays has the car this morning as he needed to drop my Mum to the train station. Hmm... I suspect I need to go out for a test ride first before I decide (and maybe phone the doctor's to check that the nurse has arrived too).

It didn't freeze as hard as it could have done and I reckon I could have made it on a bike but had an excellent taxi ride in with a very decent bloke instead and can cadge a lift most of the way home.
