Man Who Temporarily Disables Facebook Account Deems Self 'Off The Grid'
ATLANTA—After deciding to disable his Facebook account in an effort to increase productivity, Chad Allen announced in a Facebook update Thursday that he was now "off the grid." "I'm dropping off the radar for a while," wrote Allen, 36, who lives in a two-story house with running water, electricity, regular garbage pickup, wireless Internet access, and high-definition satellite television service. "If you need something, text me." Allen has not been heard from since earlier this afternoon, when he confirmed via Twitter that he was "maintaining radio silence" and then checked in to his local coffee shop on Foursquare.

I watched a TV programme a while back in which employers explained that they always checked FB and Twitter before interviews to see what interviewees had been up to,

The programme featured a fake job interview for an ambitious young man who saw himself making a killing in the City. He talked the talk - he was a good team player, always gave 150% and so on ... They spoke to him after the 'interview' and he thought it had all gone really well. Then he was called back in. The interviewer was no longer smiling and she asked him to sit down. He felt nervous ...

Interviewer, turning her laptop round towards him: "Would you care to explain why there is a photo of you on FB with your penis sandwiched between two slices of bread?" The lad was really shocked that the 'employer' had done this and said that it was an invasion of his privacy. She pointed out that public posts on FB are not 'private' and clients generally do not like to see their bankers' genitals in sarnies - it demonstrates a rather unprofessional attitude!

Facebook,Twitter and You Tube are banned in China so I can't use them or see what's on them. The only one that irritates me is You Tube as there are often links posted on CC using it and I can't see what people are talking (posting) about. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Been handy for me keeping in touch with former shipmates, who..err...working on ships tend to get scattered about the world quite a bit. Actually very handy when using group chats over some recent employment issues. Theres only one guy on it who lives anywhere near me. We phone each other and go to the pub.

Serves him right fit not mastering the security settings on Facebook. His postings can be as public or as private as he wants to make them.

I use Facebook and have used its settings to reduce or eliminate the bulk of drivel posted by some of my friends. Facebook can be fine tuned to meet the users' needs if they can be bothered to explore the settings.

OK Keith, all you have to do is get to a record shop and buy The Idiot by Iggy Pop. I'm sure that the authorities will allow you to listen to the song "China Girl". Just in case they are asleep, this might slip through ......

Been a member of said social media website for about 5 years now, and can gladly say, IT`S GONE!

Over that time I met a couple of people I went to school with (20 years ago:eek:) and discovered that there is a reason why we haven`t seen each other for all that time............. say no more

Then I used it just to keep in touch with my local cycling club members, and I made it very clear on a regular basis - I hate having my photo taken, always have done. Yet after every club ride "you have been tagged in 2564 photos". FFS, how many times have I asked you guys not to do this:evil:

I got sick of people posting the same old crap, day in day out,,,,,,,yawn

Now I`ve had it totally deleted, no going back and I never will, I feel great now, I`m not living in a bloody fish bowl any more:smile:

Really recommend it!!
It is more than a little ironic, that you choose to inform a social media group that you are leaving a social media group.

Exactly why I use a fake name, fake details, periodically change the name, and have my security settings screwed down tight.

In fact, thinking about it... I may be the reason Richard Madeley hasn't got much work lately!
