I can understand an accident but covering it up is beyond comprehension, and not even showing any remorse.
perhaps there should be a group of Ninja cyclists going round avenging these deaths, might make some drivers think if there was a possibility of being assasinated by Lycra clad blokes in a dark alley.

Many driving offences are dealt with by lay magistrates (not this one, it's true, and quite rightly so).

It seems to me that the responsibilities and liabilities for drivers of motor vehicles are decreasing. More and more drivers are just forgiven for causing accidents.
I can understand everyone makes mistakes, but when those mistakes happen when in charge of a motor vehicle, its likely to cause loss of life (compared to other activities)!
It just seems to be that accidents are becoming an inevitable risk when driving and if there is a fatality, well.... it happens
No other dangerous activity is treated this way!

I was thinking of it more for truck drivers who try to cover their tracks or perhaps motorists that kill cyclists in a fit of pique because they dared to object to some cretinous behaviour and werent packing a tonne and a half of aging Escort to back it up.

No. it's just that as a father of four forget the hysteria about pederasts and the rest. The greatest fear, when the children were young, was always the traffic just ouitside the front door. I really resent drivers who regard residential roads as their own personal drag strip. Bring on 20mph in all residential streets as soon as possible. Preferably policed by average speed cameras rather than speed bumps.

Here in Sheffield we've had a couple of 20 zones for years, complete with traffic calming, ramps and pinch points on entry, and a few sleeping policemen (but not too many IMO). I'm only familiar with one of them, and it seems to work well. Both of the 20mph zones are made up of fairly high density housing, with lots of parking on the streets. Also they were used as rat runs by commuters, and so some action was needed.
I'm not sure if local authorities will create many 20 zones, other than this type - but I hope they do.

The local lollipop lady has recently hung up her sign and yellow coat for good in resignation as she is sick and tired of being verbally abused and jumping for her life as speeding drivers aim their cars directly at her when she steps into the road or shepherding kids across the road
