were you in primary position when you got hit? I'm confused by your road position and think you may be able to place yourself so you're more visible?

Glad you're not too badly hurt. I hope you told the police about the offer of a bribe to forget the whole thing! By letting them attend and going to A&E you have increased your chances of getting compensated for something that wasn't your fault.
Wouldn't be seen as bribing him to forget though. If the money had been taken it would have been a case of accepting settlement at the scene.
The other thing the driver did wrong was to move the other vehicle, without informing the owner, before the police arrived. Making it nigh on impossible to be in a posistion to say how far he'd been thrown.
Cyclist was in the wrong for getting into his car. It could lead to trouble further down the line. Especially since he was offerred cash to settle up there and then. It could be taken as him demanding money.

From the description of the
damage to the rear wheel, I'd say that the rear triangle has been damaged. As in any such incident make no attempt to ride the bike before you get it checked.

And as already been said its easier get spare parts/replacements for the bike, than it is for you. Don't rush things and get back on when you've been given the clear to do so. After that, take it at your own pace.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
As others have said GWS and sounds to me like he was trying to avoid a larger claim or avoid police attention but its all speculation .
Note everything down from injuiries ( photos + docs ) , bike repair costs, earning lost , travel costs etc and write full details of accident down to make sure you remember everything or can add to it as your recollect .

+1 : Medics would much rather you attend and it turn out to be nothing than you don't and it turns out to be something!

@carrera25 GWS. The bike can be replaced (at the driver's expense) your body parts cannot!

BTW, would be a good idea to write everything down, as much detail as you can, in case he starts wriggling and denying later.

Edit to add: Make sure you chase this up with the police as well. I'd be pushing for a DWDCA prosecution.

hey there benb, thanks for ur advice! I have written everything down as advised by the police and will be giving an official statement when the police callat my house on Monday or Tuesday ( might call them and see) and will be doing everything I can to bring a claim against him with DWDCA as the reason!

just want my bike fixed but it might be worthwhile buying a new one altogether due to likely time it will take to get a claim.

I was very nearly taken off again today. Similar can't wait to pass, go to overtake but no room so they pull in on you. I was very shouty, but didn't swear. Didn't fancy a wing mirror in my already broken ribs.

ouch!!! sounds like you had a terrible time of it man.....and clearly a lot better at holding you're temper than me too!!

sincerely hope you get better man

primary position????

I was in the same spot I use every other day for over a year and never had any problems at all on the roundabout until now!! I was close to the outside (left) of the lane as it gives me the good old ''eyeball the driver'' position while still claiming my space on the road.

think the guy just wasn't paying attention or he had a blind spot.......either way I feel I was in the right in terms of clothing, lights and road position

I always make sure I give drivers the eyeballs on roundabouts. Even then, there will be the odd driver who looks straight through you and pulls out regardless.

yeah I was eyeballing him but he didn;t eyeball me........which makes me think he wasn't even looking period. but this roundabout is hellish as the police themselves said so think this might be a hotspot for this kind of thing. just glad I got off lightly and was able to walk away......this time

I hope me goin to sit in his car doesn't come back and bite me in the ass.

as for the bike it is un rideable at the moment.....rear wheel is completely snapped and not had chance to asses the rest of the bike though I do expect the entire rear of the bike to need replaced at the very least ( cogs, wheel and possibly chain and rear derailieur) but will not be touching the bike until I start a claim and the bike has been assessed for said claim......so no bike and likely to buy another second hand on gumtree just to get to work.....

I feel pretty good considered just a little sore on my side though will probably feel a little shaky when I next get on the road so will leave it for a week or two until I feel ready
