i'd replace the forks since they are carbon

get the bike checked over and get a damage report from the bike shop

if you've been on here a while you'll know that people get a bit annoyed and start being awkward when they find out it'll cost more than £50 to fix your bike.

anyone know what happens with insurance? will his insurance require me to take the bike to a bike shop of their choice for a costing? or will they just accept my LBS costing or even my own?

Glad you're OK Tharg.
I've had a few close ones there, although its usually drivers overtaking and then turning left down the ramp that are the problem.
At least the car is newish and insured, not always the case in lovely Hulme!

Jesus - sounds nasty. I hate that bit when you see their headlights and you know you're going down whatever you do :/

Ibuprofen is great if you've got any bruising.

Hope your well, but it seems by the positioning of your diagram he might have been looking behind you for cars, there seems to be a blind spot if you like, where if your nearly in front of them they are not looking there but beyond us,its happened a couple of times on a particular roundabout for me over the last week, they look right and dont see us in front of them as they join the roundabout.Could have been something similar?Hope your not aching too much.

There have been a lot of "offs" lately. :becool: I struggle to call them "accidents" sometimes.... A guy on 'radar got hit too at a miniroundabout -people just drive too frantic and in a state of constant stress - its not good for us and pedestrians.

There are also just TOO many cars - 30 million of them was the last call 2 years back when surveyed by the Beeb iirc. People over rely on them or are too lazy for shorter journeys... this all mixes up into a dangerous concoction.

Tharg, I hope you're ok! I hope his insurance does a better job that the insurer of the driver that hit me... Make sure you:

1) log and photo all damage, keep damaged goods for inspection
2) Photo all injuries, and if you havent already
3) go and see a doctor and make sure your ligaments in your shoulders and knees are ok!
4) keep any travel expenses as you may be able to claim those back
5) If you're still in contact with the police - ask them if they have given the guy an eye test (regardless of age - its as important as breathelisation imo)
6) if you're insured or with the ctc I think they can handle any claim or help you out with advice.

Rest up.

Good point. Had a near miss like this on a roundabout recently. Thought I'd made eye contact with the guy as I rode round & as he had a couple of bikes on the back of his car reckoned he would give me some space. Guess he just didn't see me.

well took it into LBS today, they will be writing off frame, forks, front wheel, cranks, chainring and maybe bars.
Also to replace a lovely lugged steel 653 frame is not easy as to get a new one would probably mean a trip to Leeds for a Bob Jackson. LBS reckon hes gonna freak when he gets the bill ;)

Its a scary position when your nearly in front of the lane the car doesnt seem to be slowing down on when coming to join the roundabout,i actually start waving with as big an arc in my arm as i can get now,it gets them looking where i am instead of behind me and missing im there. Its unnerving to say the least when iv found myself in that position, almast all cars joining the roundabout havnt seen me.

Confirmed, insurance gave go ahead to repair, Bob Jackson Vingorelli ordered and possibly available before new year!!! Colour chosen is Albicocca metallic with white lug lining and decals.

Mean time I had this built up to get me to work and back, been three weeks with no bike and it's been p*ssing me off no end.

Hey Tharg,
The same thing happened to me about 10 years ago.
An old boy turned right in front of me. Bike hit front wing of car, I flew over bars and hit windscreen with head and shoulder. Pushed windscreen in, slid down bonnet and landed on feet. Very spectacular.
Bruised but no other obvious damage to me. Bike was mashed though.
Unfortunately, about 2 months later my right shoulder began to pop out for no reason and bottom front tooth turned black.
Had to have shoulder pinned and tooth crowned.

Wait a while before confirming all is well with your body. You just never know.
