Or, depending on the context, the habitual present.

I used to have a custard cream habit.
As in "every time I return from a bike ride, I treat myself to a custard cream"
Present continuous if you are narrating what you are doing right now. "I am day dreaming about eating a custard cream"

It is possible to create a sort of talkover present tense narrative such as ''I enter the kitchen and see the lid is off the biscuit tin. I treat myself to a custard cream....etc,etc'' and it's occasionally used as a literary or filmic device but it's not used in real life. Besides, I don't have any custard creams.

I never saw their attraction either, but older people seemed to like dunking them.
The rich tea biscuit is for seasoned dunkers only. Digestives, Custard Creams and Hob-Nobs (etc.) are for the amateurs who struggle with the complex art of soak tolerance... to successfully dunk a rich tea, getting maximum soak and minimum fribble is best left to ninjas, kung-fu masters and starfighters. :okay:

The only time a rich tea style biscuit is palatable is when 2 are sandwiched together with jam or chocolate spread eg BN biscuits which you used to only be able to buy on the continent. They always remind me of long drives down France, French service stations and for ever attempting to get the crumbs out of the back of the car.

It's absolutely used in real life all the time by the stream of consciousness variants of extroverts.
