Maybe, but I'm told that it rots/swells any rubber seals you may have.
it doesn't do comdoms any good.

Ceramic grease in my current favourite.

Don't buy it from a bike shop though, go to a car motor factors and pay far less. Last tube I bought was about £3 as opposed to £8 at (just checked) at Chain Reaction / Wiggle etc. Very useful on your car as well if you get the spanners out on that.

Something water resistant and as thin as possible but which doesn't actually run out. Castrol CL (calcium based) grease is good.

My dad has a small tub of Castrol LM Grease lying around from the days when he used to fettle with his car. Its a decent multipurpose grease though there may be better available.
