I've got grease (called Seriously Purple Grease) that my LBS provided for pedal threads, is that stuff ok for the regreasing a seat post (as in, it's not going to result in the seat post slipping inside)?

It's an alloy seat post in an aluminium frame.

copper grease would be a bit better, but if you plan to re-do it annually any grease will be fine. don't go buying a new tub just for that job, and don't leave it too long. they really are a devil to remove when they're seized in:angry:

Grease will be good, just a tiny bit. Take it out once a year, or at least undo and turn it. I had an alloy one seize in a steel frame and it took a bike shop to drill it out

Any grease will be fine for an ally post in an ally frame. I would remove and regrease a little more frequently than annually though, because once its seized, they are a bugger to remove.
