I wasn't kidding when I said Cyclechat. Or more generally, the internet.

In the 70s & 80s I had Richard Ballantyne's Bicycle Book. That was it. It was my only way to find stuff out. It was pretty good, and the world hadn't exploded into hundreds of different standards for this and that and so on so it was quite comprehensive.

Now if I want to do something to my bike I just have to post on Cyclechat and I can get pages and and pages of conflicting opinions and random arguments. And I still won't know how to do it.

‘At one time it took a whole office full of people to cock something up - now it just takes one person with a computer’.

Hollowtech 2 of course is the greatest invention. Everybody should get it fitted if they have not already.

And remember to have a hammer and chisel handy, .

I think we have a winner.

Probably for the sport of cycling, it is E-bikes. It opened up the sport to so many more that up till now would never ride a bike.

Judging by the lack of pedalling of many ebike riders around here, I wouldn't quite make make the claim about riding bikes, motorbikes perhaps.

The greatest invention or advancement was just over 25 years ago, but sadly doomed to history by the UCI.
