According to a BBC article:
An Australian psychology expert who has been studying emotions has found being grumpy makes us think more clearly.
In contrast to those annoying happy types, miserable people are better at decision-making and less gullible, his experiments showed.

Basically I would agree that the things that grumpy people are good at, are things I'm not good at.

And the good news:
His earlier work shows the weather has a similar impact on us - wet, dreary days sharpened memory, while bright sunny spells make people forgetful.

So we should be ok for the next few months then.

How do they know that it's not thinking clearly that makes you grumpy?

A load of old tosh I tell you.

Yello, I agree with you Yello. Thinking clearly about a situation and seeing the complications and craziness and rushing about in today's world, it is easy to get very grumpy/unhappy.

The people who do not take time to think, about their actions or the consequences of their actions, they are the jolly/"happy" ones, because they do not see the world as it really is.

People who rush to the next big* acquistion, thinking it will make them happy, while over-looking the greater goodwill that there should be, they are the "not Grumpy" ones.

* I exclude bike-related acquisitions here, I hasten to add. I am thinking of people with hundreds of thousands of pounds of bonuses, while others on this planet go hungry, or are homeless.

I don't think acquisitions do make people happy, if anything the reverse... those who don't worship possessions (not necessarily including myself in that group - I'm probably in the middle of the two extremes) generally are happier.

I was meaning that I wouldn't consider myself the best communicator, especially in the written form, and that I'm not a brilliant decision maker - I found it weird how those traits went with being more happy go lucky.
