As it happens I know one of the cyclists. What really happened was that they were pootling along quite slowly as one of them is in his sixties. The puppy ran, out of control across the road and hit the front wheel of the older cyclist who luckily managed to stop without hurting himself.

Amazing how the press can swallow this kind of crap, isn't it!

It seems odd the dog owner being quoted as calling for other path users to have "respect" for each other and to use the area "sensibly" yet allows her dog to be ranging free in a public area.

I'm happy for dogs to be off the lead in some places, especially if away from the beaten track with usual rules. Is that a beaten track in the story?

If the dog then gets run over by someone being careful on a bike then the owner has no cause for complaint I think.

I bet they wouldn't of said "jean-clad cyclist", or "baggy short-clad cyclist" if the person wasn't wearing lycras.

"Guide dog puppy" is as much an oxymoron as the journalist is a moron, as the training doesn't start until they are a year old. Up to that point, the correct phrase is "puppy".

When a story opens with a headline as poor as that, the rest of it has the legitimacy and credibility of Tony Bliar.
