I had the free bus pass long before I was told I had to put in an application for PIP.
And it had no bearing on the assessment form or at the assessment.

The bus pass's are handled at a local level, by local authorities. Who also deal with Blue Badges.

Mmm, i might apply for one then. I have an assessment coming up, hopefully in the autumn after a benefits adviser from a local charity said I should be on the higher level of PIP. He/we asked for the assessment, it wasn't the DWP who said I'd have to have one. Obviously I'd like to be put on the higher level of PIP, but I think I'd be happy with just a bus pass. I'll get one when I reach retirement age In February 2027, but something tells me that when I get close to that date the government will move the goalposts and make it 70 before I'll be entitled to one.

It's really embarrassing when I catch a bus, which is not very often as when I ask how much it is the driver tends to say stuff like 'oh, have you forgotten your bus pass'? thinking I'm an OAP due to how I tend to dress and my looks I suppose. I hate saying I haven't reached pension age yet as the driver, or anyone else for that matter seems surprised, with some being quite personal!

You should know, before making an application for the pass, that there's more than one type of bus pass. And the one, OAP, you seem to be thinking of applying for isn't the one those doing the assessments are talking/asking about.

And, @Pat "5mph" may well end up editing this out, to apply for the pass to help aid you get the higher level stinks. That's my opinion only, as a person who'd gladly give up the pass if doing so meant the reason I qualify went with the pass. Being realistic, the reason I qualify for the pass isn't going to disappear. Even if I hand it back.

And how about cutting the personal insults, "dry humour" or otherwise!
No surprises there.  :okay:

I'm still trying to work out how/why @classic33 turned my statement that I might apply for a bus pass and I have a PIP assessment coming up in the autumn around to me doing something that 'stinks'! As far as I can see, I wasn't implying that I was going to ask for a bus pass to influence the PIP assessor. If anyone saw/sees it that way I can assure you that I didn't intend it to come across like that and would the assessor be influenced in their decision by a bus pass, I very much doubt it!! If I get moved onto the higher rate of PIP I'll be entitled to a bus pass, as far as I know. If I don't so be it and I'll have to wait till February 2027 for one, when I reach retirement age.

AFAIK a bus pass can be claimed by anyone over 60

There is often going to be an element of 'bulling it up' to increase the chances of a claim, but equally I assume 'told to say his bags were leaking' to get more money falls down in two areas (accepting my limited knowledge)
If we're talking about urine bags leaking, that's not a disability, that's perhaps a failure of equipment.
Secondly it wouldn't get him more money, simply increase his chance of qualifying for one of the two elements, i believe the amount paid is fixed for all, you don't get more money the worse the condition surely?

Having someone assist you completing the form is a bit open to 'stretching things' as they often know what works, what doesn't, what's relevant etc. My wife was helped by a former colleague, working with SEND children gave her an intimate knowledge of how it all.worked.

There is always the urge in some to stretch the truth but you need to fulfill several areas to qualify, not just one. There's not much you can do about dishonesty, it will always happen...ultimately they may fall on their own sword if they get sussed.

This is of course all reported second hand and maybe just someone winding up the OP regards PIP.
