This could have possibly been dealt with and brushed under the carpet at the time of the event if it had been handled correctly.

INSURANCE would have been beneficial, but I doubt you can get it retrospectively, which in turns leaves taking it on the chin.

As you panicked and didn't handle things well you'll just have to chalk it down to experience, learn from it, and move on, but if he pursues it don't let him dictate the costs. Get your own quotes and try to arrange to pay the repairer rather than the 3rd party.

FWIW cosmetic paint repairs are not expensive and when done right are very effective. So if it's just a scratch/dent it can be repaired, even at his home/office to minimise inconvenience, and just from what you've said it won't need any new parts.

I don't know where you are and I haven't seen the damage but you'd be surprised what a MATE of mine can repair for between £30 and £50.

PS: Decent grammer and punctuation generally help you get more responses IMO. FWIW I nearly gave up reading your OP and suspect others will too, just sayin' ;)
(sorry my grammer has never been correct I am working on it) Best answer yeah it wasn't a deep scratch it was just long, I wasn't going to use insurance on something like a scratch also to the other you have a angry short bald man screaming at you at the time i did cool down a bit he didn't i can truley understand why he was Pi**ed off i would be the exact same, but yeah i will put this with experience and learn from it but thanks allot (ps how did this turn in to talking about Russia and the Red army) (pps it was Gorbachev who brought down the wall with Ronald Reagan)

I thought you might be. Hope it all turns out alright. If you've heard nothing about it for a week then it's almost certainly blown over and you can chalk it up to experience. Don't let it put you off riding!

Spend £34 on British cycling membership and you'll be insured if this should happen again, so you won't have to run away

Too right. You'd be speaking Russian now Comrade if it wasn't for my efforts as a teenager.

I know what you mean. My grandfather got killed in 2 world wars fighting for our liberties. Its not too much to ask for a little respect now and then.
