It's obvious to me now but all my life I have exercised without eating first, I couldn't play squash properly if I had eaten and when I took up cycling I did the same thing...BIG mistake! Now I eat before all rides, and top up on the ride with a bar or banana.

Maybe try eating something suitable a good time before your ride instead?

Well i had a full English breakfast before i went out this morning and did 25 miles of east Lancs finest hills. Then i had steak pudding chips and mushy peas for tea before doing another 15 of the same this evening. Both washed down with a pint of strong(3 steeped bags) tea!:hungry:

"On reflection it was a rare windless night"

You beat me to it. There is a 72 miler I do regular but if it is windy I avoid.
Personally I suggest increasing your distance and really slowing your speed.

I can now get back fresh after 72 miles.
