I go to an old school barber with red and white window dressing. Recently increased his price from £3.50 to £4.

I go to my local barbers about once every couple of month and get a number 2 done, he always charges me pensioners rate, a fiver.
But you aren't a pensioner for another 4 or 5 years, Dave!

I pay double that, and I don't even get any draping for all the extra expense!

While we're on the subject of barbers, am I the only one who gets a tiny bit nervous when they get out the cut-throat razor?

I had a cut-throat shave twice a week for 11 weeks in India recently and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. He actually shaved me twice each time, for the extra closeness.

And including a head and face massage, it only cost about a quid.

The worst bit, though, every time, was the 2-3 seconds when he splashed on the aftershave. 'Kin' hell!

My barbers (near my old house) closed down .... I went there for 20 odd years and it cost me £7 for the last 5 of those years.
Now i choose to go to a local barber, which is 2 miles from my new place, great service,3 guys, all very pleasant and have good chats etc ........ BUT ..... They charge £15 a cut

Don't they do soothing moisturiser over in India?

I buzz my own hair off with some Remington clippers, and have done for ages. Also, I sit outside whenever I can so the birds clear it up for nesting material.

I use the 12mm attachment round the back & sides and 18mm or so on top. It's not difficult, and my wife trims the back of my neck when I've finished. I go over it all several times to make sure I get every bit of hair, especially on the crown. With three kids, hobbies & interests, a garden, a house and bikes to fettle and clean, I simply don't have the time to take an hour or two out of a Saturday to get my hair cut.

My wife & kids get their hair cut by a friend who visits. £25 or so for the four of them !

Used to get a cut and blow dry near work every 2-3 months. Other clientelle largely from nearby Inns of Court (Lincolns or Grays) and prices to match.

When it got to £30 I started going to the unisex in the village. She charges £8 or £9.

After the shave and face massage (when he uses a small amount of cream/moisturiser?) and prior to the aftershave application, he uses a kind of wettened menthol bar (like a small bar of soap) over the shaved area, which also stings a little bit.

That's interesting. I wonder what the Menthol is for? My guess is that it has slight antiseptic properties, and provides a 'cooling' sensation.
