Some of the muslim kids that I teach have expressed interest in pie eating - I kid you not.
When I questioned them, they said that pie eating had never been on their families agenda and they hadn't been curious until they had smelt my corned beef and vegetable pies being re-heated at school.
Further questioning revealed that they didn't think that halal pies existed. Have I discovered a niche market?
I have promised to make some pies for them and have found some halal corned beef which sorts out the meat filling.
The next sticking point is that pastry.
Has any CCer made shortcrust pastry with vegetable fat instead of lard?
How successful was it?
