With regards to C2W is it not about time that the maxiumum spend of £1k was raised? its been that amount for at least 4 years afaik and even with the "low" inflation bike prices are generally on the rise or you get less spec for your money .

The maximum spend was not designed to accommodate keeping abreast with price rises of a £1000 bike.

What was it designed for then? please elaborate rather than just making a sweeping statement that did not enlighten me in any way .I would like to know why they picked £1000 and have not changed it .

I suspect the taxman didn't want to give up too much revenue and the powers that be felt that £1000 was ample to purchase a commuter bike...which is probably still is - prices have gone up like for like due to exchange rates, design and manufacturing costs, marketing spend etc but in terms of low and top prices not much has changed - an entry level roadbike or hybrid is probably still around £250 and a good mid range alu roadbike still around a grand IMO

i agree completly with that of course but is it a good argument not to raise the limit every year with the retail price index as everything else goes up such as food , even your tax code goes up every year by an amount so why not C2W value ?

£1000 still gets a good bike. I don't see the problem.

The £1000 was never designed to buy a £1000 bike but to buy a bike and accessories if wanted costing up to £1000. This is still the case. There are no losers.

Why should the government increase the concession? Enlighten me.

Read the post before your post ? i asked why they should not increase it , i was expecting some legislative /tax reason rather than " you can still get a bike "

Except my salary

I agree with Vernon - £1000 is perfectly adequate for a commuter bike which I guess is what C2W is actually for - not a fancy weekend toy  The tax reason is probably that the Government doesn't want to give anything more to the hard working folks  If you want to know, why not write to your MP

erm its not about whether you can get a bike with £1000 and i never said it was , i asked why they cannot put it up with RPI
"you can get a bike with 1k is not a real reason why they should not "

I think we will have to agree to disagree on this one , there is nor real reason why the should not raise the limit in line with some rpi/inflation link apart from cant be assed but you can still get a bike with the limit although it will be less of a bike than before .lets hope it goes up at some point or in 20 years we could be in trouble

'You can still get a good bike for £1000' is a pretty good justification that the holders of the purse strings can use as an argument for the status quo.

The scheme was never designed to subsidise weekend warriors.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did away with the scheme altogether within the next 5 years - it's already less attractive now than it was 5 years ago

Erm , did i say it was ? somehow peopel have got in into their head that i was on about buying high end bikes just to ride purely for leisure.
Please stop takign the wrong end of the stick , i merely asked a good reason why it should not be raised for those who can/want ( not me btw ) a bike like that so that a similar spec of bike could be bought comapared to when the scheme was introduced .
