My brother purchased a Crossfire 2 from Halfords yesterday & asked me to pick it up for him today after work. Ride it out of the store 3miles down the road & crack!!! I think c**p I've just damaged his new bike.

Quick stop on the side of the road nothing looks damaged 2miles to home i'll get home & inspect it further. On closer inspection the front derailleur high screw has bent (looks like it was never squared when screwed in) past the mechanism it is supposed to limit & does not come back out.

Not even 30 minutes old the bike has gone back to Halfords for a replacement

Blimey...that's not good is it?
As usual though, Halfords is very hit and miss when it comes to bikes.

I tried to unscrew the screw & the head started to disintegrate. Told my brother if he has one more problem with it to get his money back & go to lbs down the road

Bikes back & they have upgraded his front mech to SRAM fairly impressed by their decision to upgrade. They have clawed a point back (now -9 points in my books)

I took my first adult bike back 4 times with 2 different problems. They ended up blaming me for neglecting the bike (I owned the bike for a week!!!)

My friend purchased a bike from halfords first ride out he stops about 5 miles in and says he couldn't turn the pedal anymore. My friend not even being able to put a chain on i go and inspect his bike to find the front derailleur must have not be fitted squarely or tighten as it had wrapped itself around the chain set and buckled itself into a permanent feature of the chain set. Needless to say it went back for a full refund as i'd finally convinced my friend not to buy from them!

I've heard a rumour that they are trying to improve their standards in this area and are recruiting trained mechanics. A friend of mine just got a job at a Leicester branch (not started yet) and he tells me that they will be sent on a training course once employed in addition to his own level 2 nationaly recognised qualification. We shall see.

The first person that worked on OH bike was a teenage lad on his first day. A senior did work on it after 15mins without success. Ended up re-positioning mech as well as cable adjustment. Have to see how things go on Sundays ride
