The other day I was thinking about double ended torch which has white light at one end and red light at the other so when carried in the hand whilst walking at night alerts traffic to your presence

I got 3 very similar ones off ebay, cheaper brand though, I paid IRO £2.50 each time I brought one.
18650 battery is the best bit, you get acres of use out of them between charges. I've used them at work for the last 2 or 3 years, almost daily use, dropped them no end of times, mine just keep going and going. Just drop in your pocket, quite compact. You get a good beam out of them, you're not going to light up an entire field but for the money....spot on.
Only downside is you have to buy a battery and charger. I have a box of reclaimed batteries so it was the obvious choice for me.

When I started in law enforcement the 3 D cell maglite was the light of choice for most, but they were already being seen as heavy and outdated by about the 2000s. The AA versions were popular for somewhat longer mind you, although they had their limits. The Surefire range seemed to take over about then onwards. I was on specialist search from the mid 2000s and I had one for years, really super bits of kit, light, small, powerful and reliable. If a bit dear.

I've got a ledlenser police tactical torch, about double your budget from screw fix but mine has taken some abuse over the years and is still going! I like the way you can alter the beam from wide to narrow.
+1 for the Ledlenser, a little pricey but well worth it.
