Hi,
Could anyone help? I’ve only just started riding again after many years, I’ve an old (2006) carrera subway 1 in pretty good nick. There is a “widget” under the handle bars that holds them in place but allows you to adjust the rake angle of the bars if you need, this piece is missing! Would anyone know of a good stockist around where I might be able to locate the part? I’ve been trawling the internet but with no luck! I’m based in the UK.
Thanks your help would be very much appreciated.

It's worth us narrowing down what the name of the part is if you're fitting it yourself, so a picture would be useful. I thought the Subway handlebar rake was adjusted by a 4 bolt face plate type stem but if any of that was missing your handlebars would be hanging by the front wheel, so this is clearly a different arrangement. Pic please! 😊

Edit: Ah, Figbat is right I feel, probably an adjustable stem.

It looks like it may be some kind of adjustable stem. Just search for "adjustable stem" and make sure you have the dimensions (external diameter) of the steerer (the top of the fork where it will attach) and the handlebars. Or replace it with a fixed stem if you don't need to use the adjustable aspect.

I’ve tried to take some pictures of the part! It’s a little tricky as the bike is black! I’ve also added a photo of my wife’s bike which has the part still! I’ll see if I can take her off and picture that separately. Cheers

The problem with adjustable stems is the cost and the weight and the fact that once it's set up you will probably never adjust it again.

As @figbat and @DCBassman (thanks!) have said, unless you feel you need to retain the ability to adjust the height of the bar, I'd get a simple stem. Having taken a few measurements off your image, I think this 80mm one (8 degrees) from CRC would fit. Lots more are available at a range of prices. But your steerer is 1 1/8". Ideally when you replace it (really easy to do, with an allen key btw), one of the 5mm spacers should go above the stem.
It'd likely drop your bar about 10mm. Check that your bar (where the stem clamps) is 31.8mm.

And there's a used 90mm one on the bay @ 17 degrees (which would keep your bar at the same height with the 5mm spacer on top), but check (with the seller) the bar clamp diameter.
