I've just been wandering around a high street cycle shop wondering whether to get a proper road bike to replace my MTB when I was approached by a sales assistant. I explained what I was looking for and he told me he would recommend I stay away from bikes with drop handlebars and go for a straight bar hybrid type bike. I asked why he though this and he told me, "because you wear glasses."

Is this and issue? Has anyone had difficulty seeing the road in front of them because they are looking over their glasses and not through them?

Huh? I wear glasses and 99% of the time I'm as upright on the hoods of the road bike shifters as the the flatbar hybrid. I ride in normal glasses or prescription Oakleys

Weird how all those pros manage to ride while wearing glasses?

Wtf
The riding position on my Honda 1000 is just as "radical" as my Road bike and it is a rad quicker.....I am sure that my insurance company would have asked if I wore glasses if it mattered
Well, on a straw poll of about ten cyclists in the building I work in, most nerds appear to prefer mountain bikes. Although I'm the exception.
That's because you're a geek, not a nerd.

Did the sales assistant wear glasses? While some people report stiff necks from having to tilt their head back further to see through the glasses while on the drops, it shouldn't be a problem with well-fitted glasses.

Even more remarkable that that Tyler Farrar rode in glasses that turn black as soon as he leaves the garage... but presumably that's why he doesn't look either way before leaving his driveway (17 seconds in) and can't see that he's left the garage door open ;)

I'm a glasses wearer with a bad neck and while I no longer ride drops it has nothing to do with either of those things. He's passing on his own prejudices as facts

Best thing to do is test ride a few bikes and see (geddit) for yourself.
