Do you hear him right? Did you ask what he meant?

Just wondering if there was some misunderstanding along the way.

Yes, I asked him why. He said that riding with dropped handlebars would mean I was looking over the top of my glasses instead of through them. He himself was a glasses wearer.

Out and about on my bike tonight I was looking at all the other cyclists, many had dropped bars and didn't seem to be at too much of a disadvantage because they had their hands on top or on the hoods.

Can I politely suggest he's a dimwit. I ride with glasses and on my bikes - race, TT, tourer, cross, etc. it's not a problem. Even with a full-visored TT bike:

The guy in the shop may not have the intelligence to buy glasses suited to cycling, mine have a larger lens area than many I see.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
I've just done 70 miles in varifocals on dropped bars. The man's an idiot.

I've just been wandering around a high street cycle shop wondering whether to get a proper road bike to replace my MTB when I was approached by a sales assistant. I explained what I was looking for and he told me he would recommend I stay away from bikes with drop handlebars and go for a straight bar hybrid type bike. I asked why he though this and he told me, "because you wear glasses."

Is this and issue? Has anyone had difficulty seeing the road in front of them because they are looking over their glasses and not through them?

Where, when, so we can go and slap him !

Yep another varifocal wearer here, and I wear them with drops on by bicycles and all manner of motorcycle..never had a problem yet... What a strange thing for a shop assistant to say...

I wear glasses and have ridden 667 miles since buying my bike last October I very rarely use the drops (only on downhills) the hoods are a comfortable position for me

Mine are varifocals too
