Adaptive cruise control is great but steering is a whole new dimension imo and worlds apart from ACC imo.

I thought Tesla is more than just ACC, but an actual autonomous driving system able to change lanes, go round bends and all that kind of stuff, no? So I wasn't sure what the Ford system offered apart from camera on your eyeballs and a strong lobby group.

I don't see the point in a halfway house like this.
Hands off. Eyes on.
Unless they're giving away free fidget spinners with each car.

Surely it's easier just holding the wheel?

I've just realised that hands free driving isn't a new feature at all. Peugeot have had it for years. About ten minutes ago, I saw a woman demonstrating it in her 206 in slow moving traffic in the main street by steering with her knees while holding a smart phone in one hand and a cigarette in the other.

The nice thing about the Tesla system is how they steal the video from the on board cameras and share it around the company for sheets and giggles.

First, some genius came up with Smart Motorways. Then came autonomous cars.

Somebody is trying to thin out the herd.
