As I keep getting told not to wear normal pants under the padded shorts i wear ,i decided that on my ride today to go commando.

Now without getting into some oo er mrs questions, i have to say i prefere to wear underpants, as they give more support.

Are more expensive shorts more supportive, would bib shorts give more support?

Basical the old chap was getting a bit raw :shy:

If you are using padded cycle shorts they are meant to be worn commando, whether more expensive shorts or bib shorts would be better I don't know. I ride unpadded, I use corinne dennis unpadded touring shorts

with bamboo sports trunks underneath.

I got up this morning really early from camping to go home to work - trying to get ready without wakening everyone else. I had a variety of cycling clothes with me, and since it was pretty cold I decided to go for my Lidl long bibs. Now somehow I forgot to remove my boxer shorts. I got home 36 miles and 2 hours later with them in a wet knot around my nether regions, feeling pretty uncomfortable.

Bibs are the way to go. They hold everything in place, pad the saddle where it needs padded, and as long as you keep them clean are quite hygienic. Most importantly though they move with your body without any friction or rubbing.

The old chap needs to be lifted and pushed upwards. Basically the pad should be at the bottom of the stack. Google "polish cycling team images" for a visual example of how everything should be arranged.....

Not comfy tho surely.

Actually, this IS comfy, it may seem odd but think of the position you are in when you ride. You are leant forward - particularly when on the drops and you need everything out of the way! Shorts ahould feel tight as they need to hold you in place when you stand up on the pedals so when you put your butt back on the saddle you are not trapping anything sensitive!

The shorts are tight, wouldnt want them tighter thats for sure, and if they got any tighter i would get arrested.

Its just the position of things.

Will try it next time in the "12 o clock" position.

Or wait until the first set of lights and position correctly. For some reason I get odd looks if I have to apply a manual adjustment while out riding. Also a warning to non-cyclists should be, never shake a cyclist by the hand.

I normally wear marks and spencer boxer, the lycra type, and never really had an issue.

I've never had an issue with the bamboo sports trunks, well apart from the day I managed to put them on back to front  How the hell I managed that I don't know. Seriously they have normally been very comfortable.

First hill I climbed on yesterday's ride, I sat back a bit on the saddle and felt a sharp pain in one buttock from the pad area. Tried moving around but it got worse. In the end I had to find a stile and nip into a field, drop my shorts and investigate the pad. Never found anything and the pain didn't come back so I dunno what it was.
