My Great Grandad, who was very hard of hearing, only signed up for WWI because he had heard that "we're off to give the nun a good licking."

Reminds me of a shared house we were in back in the day. The estate agent's inventory mentioned "picture of battle of Waterloo", featuring a naval battle, presumably trafalgar.

Even more absurdly it listed "glass with a crack in it". It was clearly a free glass from esso tokens rather than waterford crystal so it was utterly bonkers. And to add the fun, one day we all came home from the office to see a car parked in our drive with a guy asleep in it. We left him to it and went in the house and a little later he woke up and rang the bell. Turned out he was the landlord and explained the estate agent, who was a former mayor of Chipenham, had done a runner with several months' rent from a number of properties. As he was the landlord's agent rather than ours we paid him directly thereafter and all was well. I mentioned the list cracked glass and pulled a face and said chuck it away

Well, write it down boy ......
In all seriousness, even if you have only a fleeting interest in history, the battlefield site is well worth visiting. The visitor centre is very good and do make the effort to visit Hougoumont (it's a walk of about a mile). That place alone was worth the visit. It hasn't changed too much since the battle.
