Has anyone on CC "enjoyed" cycling in the Lake District??

I went up a couple of years ago on Easter weekend. We did a few nice hills, the struggle and Honister among them. It was one of my favourite weekends of riding. I am looking forward to going again next year and doing some of the higher, longer, steeper hills.
A pic of me descending down Honister pass. I think that was less fun the riding up it, the road has plenty of bumps in it and you cannot let your speed get too high with the road being narrow in places.

:hello:

I love taking my bikes up to the Lake District. Okay it's a bit hilly but that can be sorted with the right gearing and the views make the climbs worth it.

Any excuse to dig out this photo again ;):

Taken just above the hairpins on the Eskdale side of Hardknott Pass.

You get bonus points for riding up hills on that tank !! :okay:

50 yards below yours as I'm sure you'll recognise.

Really steep hills are in some ways easier on a tandem - you don't have to worry about the front wheel lifting off, which i find is the limiting factor for me when climbing hills.
Your photo gives a better idea of how steeply it drops away on that hairpin.:okay:

I don't have to go to the Lakes for climbs like that when I have ones like this practically on my doorstep ...

Having said that, and despite loving the countryside round here, there is no doubt that the Lake District is even tougher and more scenic!

Similar here to be honest. The Burway and Asterton Bank are within reasonable cycling distance:

Is that the Mytholm steeps? I have only been down them.

Sure is!

A colleague was giving me a lift back from work down that descent once in a convoy of about 4 cars all too close together and being driven too fast. The front driver stopped dead when another car suddenly came round the 90 degree bend in front of him. The result was a multiple pile up, fortunately not resulting in any serious injuries ...

I live on the edge of the Lakes, and I enjoy cycling round here

There's lots of choice, from the open expanses on Caldbeck Common

To the hills of passes like Newlands

To off road tracks like Ennerdale.

I don't get round the South or East much, as the roads on the M6 side tend to be busier, but there's a lot of good cycling. Sometimes you need to gear appropriately though

Wot no sheep?I know what youve been up to,hoying Digestives behind you, then waiting, letting them pass you and then taking a photo. You will be responsible for visiting cyclists in their matching Castelli gear being run down by demented Herdwicks as they merrily pedal along towards the fleshpots of Carlisle, unaware of the horrors awaiting inthe lands beyond Uldale:okay:

Wot?
I did not mean in a day!
Are you and @ColinJ coming to visit us that weekend?
It flitted through my mind, but wasn't it you who recently said something about not liking cycling with strange men ...!

I might be able to arrange a holiday up there overlapping your weekend ... (I could be visiting family in the Midlands then, but nothing is fixed yet.)
