Has anyone on CC "enjoyed" cycling in the Lake District??

The fragrant Mrs P and I stayed in Windemere in October about three years ago and we took our bikes, did a bit of riding around. One day we decided that we would ride from Windemere to Glenridding, it looked straight forward enough, about ten miles if I recall. We had no idea it was up The Kirkstone Pass! Blumen 'eck that is a long hill, great fun going down though as can be seen in this video, I got up to 40 mph I think.




It's a lovely part of the world.

Living in the South Lakes hills are my bloomin' nemesis!! Just to get out of my village I have the choice between a shortish sharp hill or a long drawn out slog with no warm up! My challenge for 2016 is to drop a few stone over winter and climb all the passes that make up the Fred. My challenge this year was to break 100 miles which I did so next year I am embracing the best the Lake District can throw at me!! And after walking up Hardknott this year with the kids I am pretty horrified about tackling it on a bike!!

Us CC Ecosse are going in May, looking forward to tackle the less steeper bits, will come on a tank with the appropriate low gears

I was driving down south today and stop for wee break and take a look at the route next to the M74 and find the cycle path

I was in France last month and managed to get in a few good climbs including Ventoux and Alpe D'Huez - greatest few days of my cycling life ( and the hardest).

Same here: the last bit up to the house is a toughie which is always a sting in the tale to every ride.

I'm pretty sure that I couldn't do Hardknott though - did a short distance of 25% plus a while back and Christ that was hard enough.

We have just enjoyed a 3 day break in the lakes...........lots of walking. I saw a lot of cyclists going up some VEERRY long & steep hills. I know that I just could not do them...........maybe on my hard-tail but not with my 11-32 road bike. I sort of enjoy the hills around Cheshire but I thought "they are seriously fit" to do some of those BIG hills.
Just wondered how many CCs "enjoy" that sort of challenge.

Yes - I do enjoy cycling in the Lake District in as much as enjoy cycling at all.

You get used to the constant up/down of every ride but the real biggies are out of my league. At least on a road bike - could probably make a decent fist of them on a twiddly MTB.
