Don't forget, bike setup is everything, so you might have the right frame size, but wrong stem, saddle, positioning, etc.

I would check this with someone who really understands it. Contact a local road cycling club, it won't be a waste of time.

Well Done Sir. I lost 13K recently, it makes a huge difference to everything.

Bon Chance,

LA.

Thanks for this - yes, I have to agree that the weight loss feels fantastic.

Even though I still look a little ungainly on the road bike, I would not have even considered throwing a leg over one just a few months back.

Congratulations on your fine effort too, sir.

Might well hook up with a local road cycling club for advice on setup. Think it's almost there - except that I probably had the saddle too low. Noticed that my thighs were burning (at the front) after a couple of hill climbs. Think I need to get used to getting the seat high enough to allow a good leg extension and also not rely upon sitting on it at traffic lights etc.

Cheers,

Ian.

hi ian , hope you get sorted ,no need to feel like a wombat, the easiest way to find an answer to your questions is to ask . from my experience this is the place to do it.

Thanks Roadrash - I'm quickly learning that this is a good (and more importantly) friendly place to ask questions.

Well........first proper ride on the TDF this afternoon (after 30 miles on the Vulcan to warm up).

Took the bike for a little 8 miler to my parents place. First impressions are - flippin love it. Very fast (in comparison to the MTB) very responsive (perhaps a little too responsive for me) and, downhill and on the drops, fast enough to scare me witless !!! Though, I'm rapidly getting used to / hooked on the rush.

Minor issue with setup - did not feel like I was extending my legs far enough, so the saddle will need to be raised. This is borne out by the fact that I got a real 'burn' in the front of my thighs (just above the knee). Think I need to accept that this is not a bike you sit on at the lights; stand over and hop on again when you take off. The seat post (after adjustment) will be about a third of the way through it's length - which I guess is about average?

Loving the drop bars and STi levers. Love the way you can get a halfway house between full drop and top of the bars by resting your hand on the top of the lever housing - nice design feature.

Need to change the pedals - the toe-clip items it is supplied with are dire. Removed the toe clips (because you literally cannot get you feet back in once stopped) and a couple of times, my foot slipped off the pedal. Might give some Shimano 324s a go; clipless on one side, plain on the other.

Equally, the saddle needs addressing..........oh, my poor plums!!! Reserved one of these fore collection tomorrow: http://www.halfords....tegoryId_165588

Sincere thanks to all for the advice received here. Really helped to put my mind at rest. Now, I just need to get out and enjoy my new toy.

Thanks again.

Ian.

Your best bet is to get a professional bike fitting session and see what changes you need. probably a longer stem and adjustment of your saddle.

I did wonder about that gaz.

We have a respected LBS, who I am sure would offer such a service. Might give them a call and get one booked in.

Cheers,

Ian.
