Thanks peeps. I'm having a sit down and going through the in's and outs. I've had a good think and I have to trust how uneasy I'm feeling. They need me but as a permanent employee I loose a big chunk of cash flow to my self employment. They need to get their 'house in order' and despite asks for help it's isn't there. The inhouse problems will continue to fall to me and as self employed I can walk away from them. Employed it will just fall at my door.
We're in different industries but as one freelancer to another this debate comes up all the time.
At the end of the day, you know the market opportunities available to you, you have an underlying sense of your own market value.
On the other hand you know how much you dislike your employer, or at least the work environment.
Are they paying enough for you to stomach the pain? From your posts I would say not.
Are they the only horse in town? If not, find another one.
Personally I would never recommend taking a permanent role where I knew I hated the environment - unless I had to.
Sometimes we have no option, but be clear in your own mind that you know the justification - you'll need it in three months time to remind yourself whatever you decide.
And good luck, it's only work after all
