Have noticed a black powder on my bike. The brake shoes are black (V pull type)
Once a month, I "paint" the rustable/corrodable parts with 3 in 1 oil. So I notice the powder more because it stcks and doesn't blow away.
Its only the back wheel, and both brakes work fine
What do you think are the best (maybe mid range for my bike) brake shoes

Many Thanks

I bought a pair of vs from Clahs Olsen, worst three quid I ever spent I've now gone back to the good old BBB tri stops.

What brand are you using FF? The ultegra pads I used on my road bike would quite quickly do similar, it was just a rim friendly compound and with it being the rear (3/4 of your weight is there on average) it was more noticeable. If you are happy with the performance, I wouldn't worry too much just clean more.
Of the shoes I've had Koolstop have been the best but for vfm I think Aztec is up there.

I don't know the brand, but I now know a brand to ask for when they wear out

The brake pads on my Scott produced a mass of "brake ink" in the wet. I have been using Coolstop Salmon colour pads which were great, better braking and no black mess.

Recently replaced with Halt Gooey pads, seem to work well .

The black paste is a mixture of worn out rubber and worn out aluminium. Try rubbing aluminium or brass or lead with a metal polish like Brasso and you'll get black on the cloth.
