So I was cycling down a bike lane. At the point where a road crossed the bike lane a car suddenly appeared. I slammed on the brakes, but I couldn't stop in time and went into the side.

Fortunately there was no damage to the car (it was a brand new 59 plate Alfa), but it looks like it's bent the frame of my Tricross. Is it possible/worth getting a replacement frame?

I've had a quick google, but I can't find any evidence of places selling them.

What sort of portion of the cost of a bike is the frame (as opposed to the gears/wheels etc etc).

Cheers....

I've no idea if Spesh sell their frames separately but from what you are saying get the driver insurance to pay up.

I think it was the corner of Lower Mortlake Road and Tersha Street in Richmond heading away from London. The white path is a cycle path.

There's no road markings on the cycle lane or the road, so to be honest I suspect its half a dozen of one and 6 of the other.

The guy took my phone number, but I don't expect a call. There didn't seem to be any damage to his car, and I was a bit too shaken up to think to take his - at the time I didn't realise quite how badly broken my bike was.

In any case I'm not after getting anyone else to pay, and I would get LBS to do all the work, just wondering what the cost I should be expecting is.

Well like I say, I'm not trying to blame anyone. I reckon it was probably 6 of one, 1/2 dozen of the other. I still can't find a link to a frame. :B) Ah well I guess I'll see what LBS say tomorrow.

You'll maybe find more but I posted some links in my earlier post. I didn't look closely but I thin they ranged from £200-600. I hope you get things sorted the main thing at the end of the day you are OK.

Why would the driver pay? I think the OP needs to give us more details cause he may be at fault.

It does seem a little odd, but then some paths are notorious for poor visibility.

mmmmm no coment but should anyone be going so quick that they cant stop in the distacne they can see clear infront of them? and if a car pulls out, did u not see the car or the drive or the junction? we aall have a responcibility to do all we can to antipate and avoid collisions, but sue his ass because u can , that after all is human nature

If the car turned out of Mortlake Road, then I would say it was more his fault, if he was in Tersha Street heading towards Mortlake Road then I would say it was your fault.

I bent my Giant Defy 4- you can see the bendyness of the forks in my profile pick. Because of the impact it would take to do that damage to the aluminium, Edinburgh Bicycle Coop wrote the bike off. The examination took about 8 seconds and was safely conducted from a distance of about 5 meters!

It might be different with a more expensive frame... how did you manage to bend the frame without damaging other components or the car?
