"Young and Ex-whippet"
This is what I was sent after an interview at a local kids fun club:

5th February 2012
Dear Mathew
We would like to offer you a place as a Sessional Worker, this is new project to us and I am looking for people that can support the club on Fun/Holiday Club Sessions. There will I hope eventually be a small pool of session-als who can support club when we need and they are available. Also it will be dependant on amount of funding we can raise.
Sessionals will be self employed and produce a invoice each month {we will provide a suitable blank invoice if required} any hours claimed will then be paid by cheque. They are responsible for own Tax/Insurance ect.
The rate of pay for 18-20yrs is £6.00 per hour and those 21+ is £6.25 per hour.
Club Sessions are Saturday throughout year and Mon/Tue/Wed during school holidays and run 10-4pm {Lunch 12.30-1pm}. A monthly working rota will be discussed at beginning of each month for the following month, after discussing availability of sessional and dependence of support needed at club.
To begin sessionals will be supported by CRB cleared worker till own CRB is cleared and introduction to club completed. We do not practice lone working at all during club sessions and where possible we try to maintain a male / female support especially any one to one type of work needed.
As part of the new project to start as soon as possible is where we offer extra support needed to those young people who find it hard to join in main club sessions and need activities of their own to help stimulate them. The sessional will work in pairs and be responsible for coming up with activities that suite that person/s needs.
We would like to offer you this work on a trial 6 months basis to cover all Saturdays 10-4pm on:
February 11th, 18th, 25th, March 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th April 14th, 21st, 28th
Training will be free, we will not however be able to pay people to attend on these days.
We are a small charity and run all our sessions and activities as funding allows, this will include sessional pool so we can offer work where possible.

Fun Club Coordinator

Bearing in mind that I am 18 and I thought that I would be employed straight from them and paid from them as well. I didnt expect 60 hours of unpaid training over 3 months!

BTW: Spelling and grammer mistakes are his only, I havent done anything.

Hmm, it looks like Kevin has confused work with unpaid training. Perhaps it's just his fun grammar - give him a call and check - his writing is unwell.

Call him again and ask him whether he'd consider taking you on, not as a sessional but as an obsessional.

You might as well: it's unpaid work with uncertain funding and a coordinator with health problems.

I think it would be fair to remove his telephone number and bits that would make him identifiable. I'm a bit surprised that you don't appear to have to get a CRB check at the beginning!

Daylight robbery. Probational 60 hours 'training', "oh we don't want you bye" ! Con artist if I saw one.

It's also dodgy expecting you to be self employed !

I doubt it's a con, or dodgy as such. I'm sure this kind of thing is becoming more and more common as things get ever tighter - like unpaid 'intern' placements that go on month after month. So long as there are people willing to take them on, employers will be only too keen to take advantage - charities included. You can bet your life 'Kevin' doesn't do endless hours of unpaid training.
No, it's not a con and it's not dodgy. But it is a piss-take.

It appears to be a charity, did you think you'd get a bonus from them or something:whistle:

I think the offer is reasonably, and from guessing at the field some unpaid volunteering can go down well......

If they wanted volunteers they should have just asked for them.
