Headwind out, tailwind in, or vice versa?

I'm just asking, because today (heading out into a massive headwind) I nearly gave up because the wind seemed to be taking out all the joy from the ride before I'd even gone three or four miles.

Exactly the same after an hour of alot of hill climbing into a strong wind i just turned round and came back.

Headwind out, tailwind in for me.

BUT, that's always the plan when I leave home. On the ride the wind is often blowing in all directions at the same time!

For me it's tail out head in as you have to get home no matter what

Plus I work better when warmed up.

Tailwind out for the commute, the prevailing wind goes that way.

Tailwind out for leisure rides too, I'm no good at that marshmallow test.

Where I live, with the prevailing westerly winds its usually tail out, head in.
I could head out the other way, but that would mean cycling into the urban sprawl of Leeds which is hardly prime cycling territory.
Oh, and I live at the top of a hill...

On my commute it's often more like headwind in, headwind home. Surprising how the wind can change in 9 hours, and leave you feeling tired and cheated.

I don't have any choice. The wind changes direction between getting to work and coming home so I get head wind out and head wind back. I'm very envious of cyclists going in the opposite direction whizzing past without pedalling.

Because of the route I usually take I have headwind out and back in. I must plan a better route .

Me too.Like a fool I keep riding round the open plains of the Solway.Well, that's where the bike goes,I seem to have very little control .In actual fact of course,on a windy day I ve always got the roads around the fells and its amazing just how much shelter you find in the little valleys.Sometimes,you can hear the wind rushing along the ridge above you,which of course you are about to climb up to!Much as I really enjoy windy days,for me its tail home for me.

A couple of months ago, when there was a strong Westerly blowing, I took a train to Gatwick, and rode to Whitstable. Tailwind all the way. Whee!
