Heated car seats, they have certainly evolved over the years.

The Geeley EX5 I'm looking at has heated front seats for winter, ventillated front seats for summer, and massage function. They move back to make it easier for you to exit the vehicle and move into your preferred seating position based on your key/profile.

That's how it should be.

This BTW is a £32k vehicle. My company car which goes back in a few weeks was a £50k car. It has none of those functions apart from the heating. This is why the VW ID range is struggling - especially against Chinese imports. The Geeley I can also plug in a lead which allows me to use it to power 240v appliances should I want. Handy for camping.

Yes, the price of the Chinese vehicles is tempting many consumers to choose one.

Quite how that plays out for the larger economic picture is (and shouldn't be) any concern of the consumer, but it should be keeping western politicians and industrialists awake at night.

What keeps them awake at night is the huge Chinese government subsidies to keep the price down, we really should follow the EU and increase tariffs on Chinese cars, they’re killing the European and UK car industry.

We currently apply a flat 10% import duty, however the EU levies its standard 10% duty plus additional duties of up to 35.3%, raising total EU import barriers to as much as 45.3% depending on the manufacturer. No wonder they are targeting the UK hard. The Jaecoo is now the biggest selling car in the UK.

I definitely will not be buying a Chinese car (Or a Tesla  )

Unfortunately making Chinese cars more expensive doesn't make domestically produced ones more affordable or desirable, so its unlikely to make much impact. Not only that but the entire Brirish car industry beyond Morgan in size is foreign owned, so while the manufacturing helps UK jobs the profits still go to overseas shareholders. Its not much of a win, if any.

Sadly the horse bolted decades ago. Poor products, dreadful labour relations, woeful management and inept government interference ruined half our domestic car industry. The decent half was GM or Ford owned anyway, and has long since taken their manufacturing from our hallowed shores.

Tell that to the 188,000 people working in car manufacturing in the Uk who depend on these foreign car companies for their livelihoods.

If the Chinese car market keeps growing, many of these jobs will be at risk over the next few years.

As aforementioned, making Chinese cars more expensive doesnt necessarily make domestically produced cars sell any better, particularly when they've already lost so much market share. Economics isnt that simple.

And I did already mention those that produce the cars in the UK, if you'd care to read the second-last sentence of paragraph 1. Their lot won't get any better with a tariff on someone else's product. Why do you think so many manufadturers set up factories in other counties in the first place?

Sadly its not legal to bi-charge to a house in the UK like it is on Oz.

It’s regulated and you have to have the right kit but not always illegal. Vehicle to load is fine, so an extension cable from the car to the freezer would be ok. Vehicle to grid with the right charger is being actively promoted by the likes of Octopus. Vehicle to home is even more dependent on kit, some of which i don’t quite understand.

What will slow sales is when purchasers realise they've bought a complete pup, that's got all the structural integrity of a sheet of tin foil, built on the cheap, with abysmal parts availability
