Hollowtech Bottom brackets has two widths, one designed for mtn bike and one for narrower shells on road bikes. You can‘t buy anything outside those widths to bring your cranks further out.

Those shoes are quite chunky

Thanks. At max forward and max lateral things are much better but still occasional slight clipping. A bit happier (thanks) but for me even 1 clip per journey is 1 too many - it doesn’t happen on my older bike - I seem to have about 700 gears (this is of course an exaggeration) have a few less, being the frame in a bit and save the issue. I was checking on Google and quite a few people appear to get it.

Nope - he has hollowtech bb - no option on spindle length

I used to get this on my old Inbred. I put a sticker on the seatstay to protect the paint.

I would just buy some pedal extenders. You can buy solid steel ones from SJS which I very much doubt you could break however hard you tried. They are heavy though......
Or you can pick up some cheap light Titanium ones off eBay - I have them on my recumbent and they seem pretty solid.
