Evening all!

I'm something of a newbie when it comes to road bikes, having ridden mountain bikes between 1991 and 2007, when I broke my wrist on the 'Terrible Twins' at Dalbeattie. I then sold both my Orange Evo 8 and Orange Five Pro, but now feel the need (as I approach my 46th birthday next month) to get my leg over again.

A few guys I know are into road bikes and I'm keen to pick up a bike and see if I can remember how to pedal. My head is saying B'Twin Triban 3 at £300, but I reckon the frame on the £600 Giant Defy 4 will be a better bet for any future upgrades.

Any thoughts, first-hand experiences or alternative suggestions? The more research I do the more confused I become!!

H Derek and :welcome: to the forum. There are quite a few from the Central Belt on here who I'm sure will be along to say hello shortly - there are also quite a few CC Ecosse rides that go out infrequently - keep and eye on the "CC Informal Rides" section.

I have the Triban 3 and as an entry level road bike it is hard to beat - search for Triban 3 and you'll find plenty of positive feedback on here, quite a few have taken the plunge and not regretted it. Many upgrade pedals, saddle, tyres, wheels, etc as soon as they get it, and some (like me) just get on and ride! To be fair I did get the pedals replaced in the shop. You'll know yourself how much/little you will want to fettle which may sway your decision. Enjoy whatever you go for, any questions just ask. Regards, Mark

Thanks Mark (and everyone else who's take the time to say hello!)

Am liking the sound of CC Ecosse, but will get the bike first and then try to get some semblance of fitness back again before venturing out on a group ride!

Thanks again.

:hello: Derek Brien and :welcome: to CC ! :wahhey:

As has been stated, there a lots of Central belt, Fife and Perthshire members around - and almost as many Tribans . I've not ridden one myself (the owners keep them very close to hand ...) but they do look good and, with a few upgrades, are an amazing package.

Are you doing the Edinburgh SKY Ride on Saturday ? A gentle family-oriented doodle round the Park, apparently, with optional hill ;).

Look forward to meeting and riding with you sometime soon.
